Summary

Very short read but this is a book i’ll be coming back to many times from now。 This book is great at challenging the believer to take a step away from the mirror and focus on what Jesus says about you despite your failures。 I feel like we all can define humility but this book takes it a step further and I highly recommend it。

This short read was very inspirational。 I will definitely be reading it again as soon as possible。 Thank you Sofi for giving it to me!!

Third chapter goes hard— opinion of God will always rule over that of ourselves or of man!

Transformed my understanding of pride and identity in about 45 minutes。 I would re-read this weekly。

Amazing。 A must read。

Great concepts, incredibly repetitive

SUPER quick read。 40-something pages of goodness。 At times, the writing felt repetitive and as if he was in a hurry to write this? Or published the rough draft? Haha。 HOWEVER, I loved this book。 It was very convicting for me, and a book I think I will go back to again and again for reminders。 Self-forgetfulness, true humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself LESS。

Pequeno confrontador livro!

This short little book has given me a lot to think about。 Perhaps a worthwhile yearly read since I’m sure I’ll need this reminder of what true humility is often。 What are truly humble individuals like? They have neither high nor low self-esteem, but they listen well and are others-focused。“The thing we would remember from meeting a truly gospel-humble person is how much they seemed to be totally interested in us。”

Caroline Mixon

Super short but very practical guide to self-forgetfulness!

Leitura fácil e rápida。

A book you can read in a short sitting, Tim shows us Paul's attitude of humility is about not thinking of oneself。 He highlights the problems with our pride, and calls us to turn to not self-defining our worth and proving it, but instead to find our worth in God's view of us。 It leaves me wanting more and is a good short read to think about。 A book you can read in a short sitting, Tim shows us Paul's attitude of humility is about not thinking of oneself。 He highlights the problems with our pride, and calls us to turn to not self-defining our worth and proving it, but instead to find our worth in God's view of us。 It leaves me wanting more and is a good short read to think about。 。。。more

Helpful, short (you could read it in 30-50 mins, depending on your pace) little book on self-forgetfulness。 Keller uses this term rather than 'humility' because of the fact that we think of humility as self-deprecation。 Instead, Keller encourages readers towards security of identity in Christ, forgetting oneself, and thereby allowing one to enjoy things for their own sake without getting caught up in the ego of it all。 Helpful, short (you could read it in 30-50 mins, depending on your pace) little book on self-forgetfulness。 Keller uses this term rather than 'humility' because of the fact that we think of humility as self-deprecation。 Instead, Keller encourages readers towards security of identity in Christ, forgetting oneself, and thereby allowing one to enjoy things for their own sake without getting caught up in the ego of it all。 。。。more

Very quick read。 Life-changing advice that we really need to remember, but will undoubtedly find hard to do。 Insightful, well-supported and eloquently written by Tim Keller, as usual。

In an age when we are all supposed to think about "finding ourselves" and believe the "we are enough", this is a refreshing encouragement to "not think less of ourselves, but to think of ourselves less。" In an age when we are all supposed to think about "finding ourselves" and believe the "we are enough", this is a refreshing encouragement to "not think less of ourselves, but to think of ourselves less。" 。。。more

Less than 50 pages of insight into thinking of oneself less and others more。。。。Not a fan of Madonna so did not care for him using her as an example in the book。 I skip over that small part but the rest is really interesting and causes one to think and make changes。。

So so helpful。 Less like a book and more like a pamphlet - it is a very simply written, very short guide on the joy that can flow out of Christian self-forgetfulness。 I imagine I will be re-reading this every couple of months。

4。5 starts, succinct guide to think of ourselves less, not in the self-effacing way many people think is the proper Christian posture, but literally, think of yourself less。 great challenge to think more about and put suggestions into action

Very short, beautiful message。 Listened to it on Audible。

Don’t think more of yourself or less of yourself。Just think of yourself less。And let Jesus help you do that!

It was alright。 Honestly, it gave me the wrong idea at times, like we're supposed to ignore everything in our lives and just put our mind on God constantly。 That's impossible in our world。 Either we forget or we have things to do, and while I agree we need to spend time with God ritually, we also need to have time to focus on other things so we don't look like a crazy person。 But that doesn't make us a sinner, necessarily。 That's just life。 We're only human, after all。But after a discussion at a It was alright。 Honestly, it gave me the wrong idea at times, like we're supposed to ignore everything in our lives and just put our mind on God constantly。 That's impossible in our world。 Either we forget or we have things to do, and while I agree we need to spend time with God ritually, we also need to have time to focus on other things so we don't look like a crazy person。 But that doesn't make us a sinner, necessarily。 That's just life。 We're only human, after all。But after a discussion at a book study with my mom and her friends, I understood it way better。 So I think books like this one should be discussed to fully understand it。 。。。more

This is a very short audiobook, basically a sermon。 In the age of social media and constant judgement of ourselves and others, this is so important。 Highly recommend。

This is the first I have read Tim Keller。 He is highly regarded by several people I respect。 This short work was well worth my time。

I was surprised by how I never caught the message of 1 Corinthians 3:21- 4:5 the way Tim (and perhaps, C。S Lewis) framed it - the essence of thinking about yourself less。 I have always struggled with asking, 'where is the line?'; where is the line between confidence and arrogance? where is the limit of self-scrutiny and constructive thoughts? how can you be full and unbothered by external 'judgment', yet care and love others with all your heart? And here it was, the challenging explanation of the I was surprised by how I never caught the message of 1 Corinthians 3:21- 4:5 the way Tim (and perhaps, C。S Lewis) framed it - the essence of thinking about yourself less。 I have always struggled with asking, 'where is the line?'; where is the line between confidence and arrogance? where is the limit of self-scrutiny and constructive thoughts? how can you be full and unbothered by external 'judgment', yet care and love others with all your heart? And here it was, the challenging explanation of the gospel that should set us (me) free。 And the invitation of saying goodbye, once and for all, to the courtroom of judgment is open for all。 So blessed by this。 。。。more

It is amazing how the Gospel is not about what we think about ourselves, it is not about what other people think。 It is only about God's work and what He accomplished for us and made us to be。 We know certain things about us are true but we are defined by God's definition!
